Man arrested after failing to rob business with fake pistol in Vernon

A man tried to rob a Vernon business with a fake gun this past weekend.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP got a report on Saturday, Jan. 6, about a robbery at business in the 3400 block of 30 Avenue in downton Vernon, according to a release from RCMP.

A physical altercation took place between a man trying to leave the business with stolen goods and an employee who tried to stop him. Police don't identify the business.

The suspect allegedly struck the employee with an Airsoft pistol, but staff managed to hold him until police arrived and took him into custody.

The suspect has been charged with failure to comply with a court order and a number of weapons related offences.

He was remanded in custody until his next scheduled court appearance on Jan. 10.
