A Kelowna fire captain has pleaded guilty to filming a 16-year-old girl in the shower.

Today, March 9, at the Vernon courthouse, Jason Todd John Stoodley pleaded guilty to one charge of voyeurism.

The incident took place in Coldstream on or about July 1, 2022.

The fire captain was arrested days later and charged with voyeurism and making child pornography.

However, Crown prosecutors have since withdrawn the child pornography charge.

No details were given in court as to the circumstances surrounding the voyeurism or how Stoodley knew and had access to the victim.

Following his arrest, Stoodley was released under the condition he have no contact with the victim and was also barred from visiting an address in Coldstream.

Outside the courtroom, Stoodley remained silent and turned his back and walked away when asked about the charge.

The 50-year-old's lawyer had previously told iNFOnews.ca that the firefighter was put on unpaid leave after he was charged.

Lawyers requested Stoodley undergo a psychiatric evaluation with a focus on risk assessment before he is sentenced.

The Crown is prosecuting the case as a summary conviction which limits the maximum jail sentence to 18 months and allows house arrest to become an option.

Stoodley has been with the Kelowna Fire Department for more than a decade and earned $121,000 in 2021.

That same year he was also awarded the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada.

He will be sentenced at a later date.
