A 37-year-old Kamloops man is now in custody after he was charged with numerous child exploitation offences against his daughter, all while on house arrest.

He was sentenced Nov. 2 for sharing nude photos of his ex-wife, but he's now facing child exploitation charges less than two months later.

His name can't be published because the court file is under a publication ban in order to protect the young victim who is under 16 years old.

He's accused of making, distributing and possessing child pornography between Nov. 30 and Dec. 15, according to court documents. He's also facing charges for sexual assault against a young victim and using drugs or alcohol to subdue his victim between September 2014 and December 2022.

It's not clear from court records how many times he's alleged to have assaulted or drugged his daughter.

He's facing five charges for separate sexual offences.

Separate to the sexual exploitation charges, he's accused of breaching his conditional sentence, which included house arrest along with multiple other conditions.

Police searched his home earlier this month while acting on a tip from American law enforcement. Kamloops RCMP didn't say when they searched his home, but he's been in custody since at least Dec. 16, according to court documents.

Kamloops RCMP also didn't say which American law enforcement agency sent the tip, but local police acted quickly on the search warrant since they believed a child was in immediate danger.

“The investigation, led locally by the Kamloops RCMP Sex Crimes Unit, was treated as a priority to address the allegation that a child was at immediate risk of harm,” Sgt. Brian Merriman of Kamloops RCMP said.

Along with his nine-months of house arrest, the man was ordered to not have any contact with his ex-wife. He was still allowed to visit his children.

He's scheduled for a bail hearing on Jan. 9, 2023, and remains in custody for now.

His two children have now been added to the no contact order with his ex-wife.
