Kamloops man charged for multiple sexual crimes against children

A tip from an American law enforcement child sexual exploitation investigation led Kamloops RCMP to a local man.

He's now facing multiple charges after police searched his home earlier this month, according to an RCMP media release.

“The investigation, led locally by the Kamloops RCMP Sex Crimes Unit, was treated as a priority to address the allegation that a child was at immediate risk of harm,” Sgt. Brian Merriman of Kamloops RCMP said in the release.

Police didn't name him because the court file is under a publication ban, but he's facing "numerous" charges, which include making, distributing and possession of child pornography.

He's currently in custody, and police noted some of his charges include breaching a past conditional sentence order. It's not clear what he was charged for in the previous conditional sentence.

An American law enforcement agency, which police also did not name, tipped off the B.C. Integrated Child Exploitation Unit. Police didn't say when that tip came, but it was forwarded to Kamloops RCMP's Sex Crimes Unit before they executed the search warrant this month.

“With the support of community agencies and partners, the local detachment was able to make a swift arrest and take the accused into custody," Merriman said.

He'll appear in court some time in the new year, police said.

RCMP said no further information will be provided as this matter is now before the courts.
