The opening scene in the first episode of a new drama TV series might look familiar to those living in the Thompson-Nicola region.

Part of the series called Tracker was filmed at a location between Walhachin and Cache Creek in Blue Sky Country just west of Kamloops.

It's the second recent project that has used film locations in the area. The first one was Monarch: Legacy of Monsters starring Kurt Russell that premiered last fall, according to a Thompson-Nicola Film Commission media release issued today, Feb. 16.

“Desert landscapes of the TNRD are generally a huge draw for film productions of all sizes,” film commissioner Terri Hadwin said in the release. “This area where Tracker was filmed is also conveniently located close to several communities and main amenities for film crews.”

Based on the book The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver the series is about a survivalist travelling the country with an Airstream travel trailer helping police and private citizens solve crimes and find missing people.

The first of 13 episodes aired on Feb. 11 and new episodes will be released every Sunday on Paramount +, CTV and CBS.

“To have a premiere immediately following the Super Bowl is generally viewed as a pinnacle for releasing a new series on television,” Hadwin said.

“It’s a feather in the cap for Tracker, and for the Thompson-Nicola region. Our landscapes are the feature of the main poster materials for this series. And we are easy to find in the pilot episode, as many exciting scenes were filmed in our backyard.”
