The Kelowna International Airport is encouraging anyone travelling by air over the holidays to ensure they are prepared for the trip.

“We want to help passengers know what to expect when they come to YLW with COVID-19 safety measures and regulations now in place,” airport director Sam Samaddar said in a media release. “We recognize travel can be stressful, especially since COVID-19, and want to ensure those travelling with us know that our priority is a healthy and safe airport experience for everyone.”

When planning to fly out of the Kelowna airport, passengers are encouraged to check-in online and download their boarding pass, arrive at least 90 minutes in advance of domestic flights and two hours in advance for international flights.

Passengers can use self-serve kiosks to print and apply their own baggage tags and scan their own boarding pass while going through security to limit points of contact.

Gifts should be left unwrapped, as they could be inspected.

All travellers must wear a mask and have the Canadian COVID-19 proof of vaccination easily accessible, as they could be asked for vaccination proof at various points. The second COVID-19 dose must have been received at least 14 days prior to travel.

If travelling internationally, passengers will need to complete a PCR test within 72 hours of departure back into Canada, submit information within 72 hours before arrival into Canada on ArriveCAN, and complete an additional COVID-19 test upon arrival in Canada.

Antigen or PCR testing is available onsite at the airport seven days a week, however, appointments are required.

Passengers who have been outside of Canada or the U.S. within 14 days prior, could be selected to complete a COVID-19 test upon arrival in Canada and will be required to quarantine until they receive negative test results.

Anyone who tests positive will be required to quarantine for 14 days.

Masks are required at all times in the terminal, and throughout the flight. Masks with exhalation valves, bandanas, neck gaiters, full face masks, face shields or militaristic-style masks are not permitted.

Passengers are encouraged to visit the YLW website to ensure they are prepared for their flight.
