This $13 million Kelowna home could be open to luxury loving visitors
A new concept for luxury accommodation is being proposed to the City of Kelowna.
Located at 380 Lochview Road, off Clifton Road, the six-bedroom, nine-bathroom, 15,000 square foot home was assessed by B.C. Assessment at $13.5 million a year ago. It sits on 38.3 acres and includes a beach house that would be converted to create another two bedrooms.
“The intent is to create private and exclusive accommodations with a home away from home experience for a single group of guests,” states the application to the city from Urban Options Planning Corp.
The land carries agricultural zoning so short-term rentals are not allowed and terms like bed and breakfast don’t suit the intent of the project, the application states.
“The wording of the definition has been crafted to clearly articulate what is being offered to the guests and how this mode of hospitality greatly differs from a commercial hotel use,” the application states.
Currently, there are no such rental accommodations in Kelowna, other than guest homes that can only be rented for a minimum of 30 days.
The idea of the guest estate is to allow for shorter-term rentals, including amenities like dining, banquets, meeting rooms, recreational facilities, boutique winery and personal services.
“Kelowna has limited high-end hotel accommodations,” the application says. “The aim of the Private Guest Estate is to provide individuals who demand luxurious private accommodations an option with suitable amenities.”
There is an acre of vineyards on the property with plans to plant more but 95 per cent of the property is in a natural state overlooking Okanagan Lake. It includes a dock.
“Although the guests are visiting from around the world, it is anticipated that they will fit into the fabric of the neighbourhood; while enjoying the privacy of this exceptional home and property.
There will be four estate-owned vehicles to shuttle guests to and from the airport and to outside activities so traffic impact in the area is not expected to change, the application says, but a new entrance is planned if the project is approved.
