The mayor of Kamloops is set to make a resignation-related announcement next week.
Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson is organizing a press event for Monday, July 15. He'll be making an announcement about "resignation/consideration," he told iNFOnews.ca in a text message.
Asked for more information, Hamer-Jackson said he meant "exactly what I said." He wouldn't say whether he's made a decision on leaving his post.
In recent months the mayor has had his salary reduced and faced a call to resign from fellow councillors. City council also sent letters to government bodies and other agencies to inform them Hamer-Jackson is no longer considered an official representative for the City, advising them to instead deal with the monthly deputy mayor.
He has meanwhile filed two defamation lawsuits in the past year, one against a fellow councillor, while also paying his lawyer to deal with multiple internal code of conduct complaints. He told iNFOnews.ca he has committed to selling his downtown business property to fund the legal bills.
Despite the mounting pressure, he's known to be stubborn. He has repeatedly told iNFOnews.ca he will not resign when asked in recent months.
The press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the scenic lookout on Columbia Street West.
