International flights will resume at Kelowna International Airport effective Nov. 30.
International routes from Alaska to Seattle are expected to return Dec. 16, routes from Sunwing to Varadero are expected in January 2022, and WestJet flights from Phoenix, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, and Cancun are expected to return in January 2022.
“Although our international status will be reinstated Nov. 30, it will take some time to have international flights operating again. Some airlines have had to push back previously scheduled routes until 2022, due to the uncertainty of timing of YLW’s international status,” Airport director Sam Samaddar said in a media release issued today, Nov. 22.
“We are thrilled to be able to once again connect passengers internationally and welcome visitors to our region and are working closely with airlines to have these routes in place as soon as possible.”
When departing from the Kelowna airport, passengers 12 and up are required to be fully vaccinated to board. Passengers are encouraged to talk to their airline for COVID-19 testing requirements, and the Whitecap RSC testing facility is available to passengers who want an antigen or molecular test before their travels.
When entering Canada, passengers can use ArriveCAN for mandatory travel information.
“We couldn’t have done this without support from our local politicians, neighbouring municipalities, key local businesses and community members. Our entire community will benefit from the economic impacts of the return of international flights,” Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran said in the release.
