All is not well at the Nicola Valley Hospital emergency department.

Interior Health has announced to Merritt and area residents that there are temporary changes at the emergency department due to a doctor shortage. This after it was closed again yesterday.

It said that effective today at 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will not be emergency services at Nicola Valley Hospital and that patients needing immediate care should go to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

Interior Health adds that all other patient services at Nicola Valley Hospital will continue.

It said that patients in need of life-threatening care should call 9-1-1 and that they will be taken to the nearest available hospital.

The emergency department in Merritt is normally open 24/7.
