Merritt's emergency room hit with overnight closure

Limited physician availability has forced the closure of the emergency room at Nicola Valley Hospital in Merritt overnight tonight.

It’s normally open 24/7 but it closed at 4 p.m. today, Dec. 19, and won’t reopen until 8 a.m. tomorrow.

Inpatient services will continue as normal at the hospital.

People who need life-threatening emergency care should call 911 for transport to the nearest available and appropriate facility, an Interior Health news release says.

People who need non-emergency care can call HealthLink B.C. at 8-1-1, go online to www.HealthLinkBC.ca or drive to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

The South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver was closed overnight last night for the same reason.
