35-year-old man shot at five months ago in Kamloops shot this morning

Kamloops RCMP officers are investigating another shooting that involves the same victim after he dodged injuries the first time.

Police responded to the recent shooting shortly after 3 a.m. today, Feb. 25, according to a media release from the Kamloops RCMP. Officers attended a residence at the 700-block of McGill Road. There was a report of three men breaking into the home before assaulting and shooting the resident.

The suspects fled on foot toward the cemetery near McGill Road before police arrived. All three are all described as wearing dark clothing.

The area was “flooded” by officers including the Police Service Dog but the suspects weren’t caught.

Kamloops RCMP arrested multiple people during the last attempt on the victim in September, resulting in charges for three men.

The victim, a 35-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“In the interest of public safety, we are confirming that this is the same individual who was previously targeted in September of 2022,” Supt. Jeff Pelley said in the release.

“I understand that learning of a second shooting will be concerning to area residents and the community at large but believe it is important that we offer some context here. That context is that the same victim has been targeted twice, and these were not random acts of violence. The investigation is a priority and we will continue to advance it, in our efforts to identify and hold to account those responsible for committing these blatant acts of violence.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and cite file 2023-6527.

— This story and headline were updated at 9:45 a.m., Feb. 28, 2023, to say the victim was not injured in the previous targeted shooting, but he was on Feb. 25.
