Kamloops woman takes on Food Network Canada's 'Wall of Chefs' for $10K prize
Although she's only ever been a home cook, a Kamloops woman is taking on the Food Network Canada's Wall of Chefs in hopes of scoring the $10,000 prize.
Cindy Meays works as a scientist for the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, but when she’s not putting in the hours for the province, she’s making culinary creations from around the world.
“I like to cook at home and I got into it from doing that,” Meays says. “I’m all over the place I try to cook as varied a menu as possible and cook new things if I haven’t cooked it before. With my friends, I do a dinner club type thing and so we like to do menus from around the world so you can try all kinds of different things.”
While she was watching the Food Network, she saw a casting call searching for some of Canada’s top home cooks for the new series. She’s never been in a culinary competition before but jumped at the chance.
“It was a lot of fun,” Meays says. “It was awesome but intimidating because you can see all of the chefs who are watching you, but it was a really neat experience.”
Every episode features four Canadian home cooks who try to impress twelve of the country's top chefs, and one of the four will take home $10,000. The contestants come from all across the country, and other B.C. cooks come from Osoyoos, Langley, Abbotsford and Vancouver.
According to Wall of Chefs unit publicist Caryn Bessner, the episode featuring Meays airs on the Food Network Canada on March 16 at 10 p.m.
