Heavily-armed police officers responded to an abduction late last week, blocking roads in the Barriere area.
Barriere RCMP was first notified that a woman was being held against her will around 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, but she was able to escape the Louis Creek home before police got there, according to an RCMP news release issued today, Nov. 15.
The suspect was holding her at his own home, but fled to a nearby motel at some point during the day.
Police said he was tracked with a "monitoring device" and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team was called in due to the "nature of the call" and the "history of the suspect."
The Emergency Response Team and air services were in the area around 1:30 p.m., rushing to the area and blocking roads.
It's not clear when, but the man was eventually arrested and held on outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions. He's scheduled to appear in court later this week on other charges, according to police.
RCMP did not name the suspect, the identify the past charges, nor did the release say whether he's facing a new set of charges.
The woman, who fled into the brush outside the suspect's Louis Creek home, was found with the help of police dogs.
“The coordinated effort of several RCMP units were key in ensuring the safe resolution of this incident," RCMP spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy said in the release. "The effective use of resources such as the Police Dog Services and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team played an important role."
Grandy has not returned phone calls on Nov. 14 and Nov. 15 from iNFOnews.ca regarding the incident.
