WEST KELOWNA - A woman has been arrested in West Kelowna after a bizarre fire in Glenrosa that eventually spread to a home.

West Kelowna RCMP and West Kelowna Fire Rescue both responded to reports of a fire in the 3600 block of Webber Road this morning, Tuesday, March 6, according to a press release from Kelowna RCMP.

Media relations officer Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said a witness to the fire claims to have seen a woman light a pile of clothing and other items on fire and then walk away.

The witness followed the woman who was later arrested by West Kelowna RCMP while firefighters fought the fire, which had spread to the adjacent house.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue assistant fire chief Brent Watson said in a press release the department responded with four engines and 18 firefighters to the fire which had spread from the rear of the house to the attic.

B.C. Ambulance, B.C. Hydro and Fortis B.C. also responded to the fire, Watson said.

O’Donaghey said a 33-year-old West Kelowna woman is still in custody facing potential charges. Anyone who witnessed the indicent is asked to phone West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
