A Vernon freestyle skier will be competing in the 2022 Winter Olympics next month.
Elena Gaskell, 20, announced she made Team Canada today, Jan. 22.
"This has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember and can hardly believe it is coming true," she wrote in an Instagram post.
Gaskell will compete in the Women's Freestyle Skiing event as part of the Olympic Games in Bejing, China, set to take place from Feb. 4 to 20.
She joins Big White snowboarder Tess Critchlow and Vernon snowboarder Kevin Hill as part of the Okanagan athlete roster competing with Team Canada.
"Although to be honest these past few years going into the Olympics have not been easy. I have battled a lot of physical and mental struggles. I remember back in October this year fully crying to my parents because I didn’t believe I would be good enough to make it," Gaskell wrote, adding she is grateful for the experience.
