Big White athlete Tess Critchlow will represent Canada in the Snowboard Cross during the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games.

“I'm so excited to be named to the Canadian Olympic team to represent Canada and Big White Ski Resort. I'm here with the team in Austria training and we all look forward to getting to Beijing,” Critchlow said in a Big White media release.

Critchlow grew up at the Big White Ski Resort, where she learned how to snowboard and competed in her first-ever race.

Critchlow began competing at only six years old in the annual Neil Edgeworth Memorial Banked Slalom where she placed second to her brother. At 14, she was picked up by the B.C. Snowboard team, and at 18 was on Team Canada’s roster.

Throughout the years, she has won five adult and junior Canadian National Championships, multiple top-10 World Cup finishes, podium finishes in team events, and a 9th overall placement in the Women's Snowboard Cross at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games, Big White said.

“All of us at Big White could not be more excited for her. We have no doubt Tess will continue to make us proud," the release reads.

“Another proud momma moment,” Tess’ mom and owner at Big White Ski Resort Ltd. Nada Schumann said in the release. “Congrats to Tess and her Olympic teammates.”

To help with the costs of training, travel, racing and other snowboard cross expenses, Critchlow has created an environmentally-friendly merchandise line Dakota Racing.
