COVENTRY, R.I. - The Latest on the felony neglect case against the parents of a dead 8-month-old girl (all times local):

4:50 p.m.

The parents of an 8-month-old girl who died in Rhode Island last week have pleaded not guilty to felony neglect charges.

Steven Gilchrist and Jocelyn Belmore, both 32, were arraigned Wednesday on charges of cruelty to or neglect of a child. Court records say they are being held in jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Coventry police say they received a 911 call Nov. 19 about an unresponsive infant. They took her to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police say a toxicology report showed the child had the potent opioid fentanyl in her system.

Authorities say an investigation produced evidence of criminal neglect by the parents.

Police say the state medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death.

Court records don't list an attorney for Gilchrist or Belmore.
