Two dead in head-on collision on Highway 5 in Clearwater

Two people are dead after a head-on collision on Highway 5 in Clearwater.

A semi truck and a CN truck crashed into each other head-on at Highway 5 and Cliffe Road in Clearwater at around 12:50 a.m. on April 23, according to a press release from the RCMP's BC Highway Patrol.

The passenger in the semi and the driver in the CN truck were both killed. The driver of the semi and passenger in the CN truck survived and are in critical but stable condition.

Following the crash the trucks were engulfed in flames when one of the gas tanks exploded. The explosion started a wildfire, but it was contained by the local fire department.

“It is too early in the investigation to comment on the cause of the collision,” BC Highway Patrol media relations officer Cpl. Melissa Jongema said in the release.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash cam footage related to the incident is asked to call BC Highway Patrol at 250-828-3111 ext. 2 and refer to file 2024-1279.
