Information sessions get underway for Kinder Morgan's Trans Mountain expansion

NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. - A couple dozen members of the public showed up at an information session this weekend on the proposed expansion of Kinder Morgan's Trans Mountain pipeline through B.C.

The company wants to twin an existing pipeline that runs from the Edmonton area to a refinery and tanker port in Metro Vancouver.

The expansion would increase the capacity from 300,000 to 750,000 barrels a day of crude and refined oil.

Oil pipelines and tanker ports have become a hot issue in the province, where Enbridge's proposed Northern Gateway pipeline to Kitimat has met with vocal opposition.

Information sessions on the Trans Mountain project began last month and a regulatory review is expected to get underway next year.

Sven Biggs of Tanker Free BC says many people showed up Saturday in North Vancouver to voice their concerns. (CKNW-The Canadian Press)
