Two people are dead after a suspected murder-suicide in Peachland.

A woman called Kelowna RCMP around 4:30 p.m. yesterday, June 27, after her friend told her a homicide had taken place and that she was considering self-harm, according to a B.C. RCMP news release.

When officers arrived at the Peachland home they set up a perimeter then unsuccessfully tried to get inside multiple times.

Southeast District Emergency Response Team got to the property around 6:20 p.m. and managed to get inside.

Officers found two people dead. One person had what appeared to be self-inflicted wounds and a weapon nearby, RCMP said.

Police believe the two are known to each other and there is no further risk to the public.

RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit took over the investigation and is working with the B.C. Coroners Service to determine the exact cause of each death.

Police also notified the Independent Investigations Office of B.C., the province's police watchdog, to determine whether police actions "contributed to the deaths."
