NEW YORK (AP) — Chicago’s Matthew Boyd won a matchup of All-Star left-handers as Max Fried left early because of yet another blister on his pitching hand, and the Cubs stopped the New York Yankees’ five-game winning streak with a 5-2 victory on Saturday.

Aaron Judge hit a two-run homer in the ninth off Brad Keller, his 35th of the season, and became the fastest player to 350 home runs. Playing his 1,088th game, Judge bettered Mark McGwire’s 1,280.

A first time All-Star, Boyd (10-3) won his fourth straight start and fifth consecutive decision, giving up four hits in eight scoreless innings with six strikeouts and no walks. He threw 62 of 85 pitches for strikes.

Judge hit a pair of doubles against the 34-year-old.

Daniel Palencia, throwing at up to 102.5 mph, got two outs for his 11th save in 12 chances.

Fried (11-3) allowed nine of 18 batters to reach, giving up four runs — three earned — six hits and three walks in three innings. He threw just 39 of 73 pitches for strikes.

Fried, a three-time All-Star, was on the injured list for blisters on his left index finger in 2018, ’19, ’21 and ’23. He had been 6-0 against the Cubs.

Nico Hoerner tripled leading off the game and scored on Kyle Tucker’s groundout. Carson Kelly and Ian Happ hit run-scoring singles in the third around Dansby Swanson’s RBI grounder.

Kelly homered in the eighth off Jonathan Loáisiga, who has allowed a career-high seven home runs over 23 1/3 innings in his return from Tommy John surgery.

TWINS 12, PIRATES 4

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — All-Star center fielder Byron Buxton hit for the cycle on his bobblehead day, completing it with a solo home run in the seventh inning, and Minnesota routed Pittsburgh.

Buxton hit a single in the first inning, a triple in the second and a double in the third. He singled again in the fifth before stepping to the plate in the seventh for one more chance at the first cycle ever at Target Field, which opened in 2010.

Facing Pirates reliever Andrew Heaney, Buxton hit a solo homer 427 feet to center field to complete the cycle — and send Target Field into a frenzy. His timing was perfect, too: Saturday’s giveaway at the stadium was a Buxton bobblehead of his “Buck Truck” home run celebration.

Buxton’s homer came two days before the Home Run Derby, in which he’ll participate in his home state of Georgia at Truist Park in Atlanta.

Kody Clemens hit a three-run homer in the Twins’ six-run second inning. Matt Wallner and Willi Castro each hit solo homers, with Castro’s coming right after Buxton’s momentous blast.

Cole Sands threw two hitless innings as Minnesota’s opening pitcher. Reliever Travis Adams (1-0) gave up two hits and two runs — one unearned — in four innings to pick up his first career win in his second major league appearance.

BRAVES 7, CARDINALS 6

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Sean Murphy, Ronald Acuña Jr. and Marcell Ozuna homered and Atlanta rallied against St. Louis’ two top relievers for the win.

Nacho Alvarez Jr., filling in for injured third baseman Austin Riley, singled twice and scored the winning run on Jurickson Profar’s ninth-inning groundout against closer Ryan Helsley (3-1).

Murphy, who hit the two longest home runs of this season at Busch Stadium on Friday night, put the Braves ahead 6-5 with a high drive that cleared the glove of José Fermín as he leaped at the left-field wall in the eighth. The three-run shot was Murphy’s 16th homer of the season and the first allowed by reliever Phil Maton in 37 appearances this season.

St. Louis tied it when pinch-runner Garrett Hampson scored on a wild pitch by Daysbel Hernández (4-1) in the eighth.

Raisel Iglesias pitched a perfect ninth for his 11th save.

Yohel Pozo and Nolan Gorman homered, and Brendan Donovan had two hits, including an RBI single in the eighth, for the Cardinals.

MARINERS 15, TIGERS 7

DETROIT (AP) — Randy Arozarena homered and scored four times as Seattle defeated Detroit.

Arozarena singled and scored in the second, was hit by a pitch and scored on Luke Raley’s homer in the third, and singled and scored in the seventh before hitting a two-run homer in the eighth.

Tigers All-Star Casey Mize (9-3) allowed six runs in three innings, one day after the Mariners beat Detroit’s other All-Star starter, Tarik Skubal.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead on Riley Greene’s first-inning sacrifice fly, but Mize couldn’t hold it.

Dominic Canzone tied it with an RBI single in the second before the Mariners scored five runs in the third.

Cole Young led off with a double and scored on J.P. Crawford’s single. Julio Rodríguez hit into a force at second, stole second and took third on catcher Jake Rogers’ throwing error. Cal Raleigh’s sacrifice fly made it 3-1.

After Mize hit Arozarena, Jorge Polanco doubled before Raley’s fourth homer of the season made it 6-1.

Mariners starter George Kirby (4-4) earned the win after allowing four runs on five hits over five innings. He struck out six and walked three.

DODGERS 2, GIANTS 1

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Michael Conforto had three hits and scored twice, Shohei Ohtani took another encouraging step back on the mound in his recovery from elbow surgery and Los Angeles beat San Francisco to end a seven-game losing streak.

Ohtani threw three scoreless innings in his longest outing in a Dodgers uniform since signing with the team in 2023. Ohtani, who did not pitch last season 2024, threw 36 pitches, allowed one hit and had four strikeouts.

The two-way Japanese star was also the Dodgers’ designated hitter and batted leadoff. He went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts.

Rafael Devers had a sacrifice fly for San Francisco.

Conforto, who played for the Giants for two seasons, reached on an infield single in the first inning and scored on Tommy Edman’s groundout. He later singled with two outs in the sixth and scored on Hyeseong Kim’s hit.

Emmett Sheehan (1-0) followed Ohtani and retired 13 batters to get the win. Alex Vesia retired two batters, and Tanner Scott got the last three outs for his 19th save as the Dodgers got their first win since July 3.

Giants starter Lando Roupp (6-6) had eight strikeouts and allowed seven hits and two runs (one earned) in six innings.

RED SOX 1, RAYS 0

BOSTON (AP) — All-Star Garrett Crochet pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts for his first career shutout and complete game, leading Boston past Tampa Bay for its ninth straight victory.

Carlos Narváez drove in the lone run for the Red Sox, who matched their longest winning streak since April 2021.

The 26-year-old Crochet (10-4), a second-time All-Star, opted not to pitch in the game on Tuesday in Atlanta so he could rest his arm for the second part of the season. He didn’t walk a batter in his 100-pitch gem.

The Rays have lost 10 of 13 and are 2-7 on a 10-game road trip.

Boston goes for the four-game series sweep Sunday.

Wearing their yellow alternate jerseys, the Red Sox scored in the fourth when rookie Roman Anthony doubled to right and scored when Narváez singled under shortstop Taylor Wells’ glove.

Shane Baz (8-5) was the tough-luck loser, giving up the run in 6 1/3 innings with five hits, three strikeouts and two walks.

MARLINS 6, ORIOLES 0

BALTIMORE (AP) — Janson Junk allowed five hits over seven innings to prevail in a pitcher’s duel with former Marlins standout Trevor Rogers, Derek Hill drove in two runs and Xavier Edwards homered to help Miami beat Baltimore.

Dane Myers had two hits and scored a run for the Marlins, who cranked up their offense in the latter innings after being held to one single by Rogers through the sixth.

Junk (4-1) walked none and struck out two in the longest outing of his career. The right-hander had only two perfect innings, but repeatedly came up with the right pitch when it mattered.

Rogers (2-1) was facing his former team for the first time since being traded last July for Kyle Stowers and Connor Norby. The lefty was lifted with two outs in the seventh of a scoreless game after allowing a single to Myers.

Gregory Soto promptly hit Stowers with a pitch and Hill followed with an RBI single. Miami padded the margin with a run in the eighth and pulled away with a four-run ninth, capped by Edwards’ two-run drive off Scott Blewett.

Rogers gave up two hits — both to Myers — and notched a season-high eight strikeouts.

REDS 4, ROCKIES 3

CINCINNATI (AP) — Will Benson tied it in the ninth inning with an RBI triple and scored on second baseman Orlando Arcia’s fielding error to give Cincinnati a victory over Colorado.

Spencer Steer opened the inning with single off Victor Vodnik (3-3) and scored on Benson’s triple that nearly went out. Noelvi Marte — who earlier homered for the second straight game — then hit a ball to second that Arcia bobbled.

Emilio Pagan (2-2) escaped a first-and-third, no-out jam for the victory. He had not pitched since since Wednesday.

Rookies Ryan Ritter and Yanquiel Fernandez provided the offense for Colorado.

Ritter, who played in his first big league game June 6, hit his first career home run with Fernandez on in the third inning. Fernandez had three hits, including an RBI double in the seventh inning.

Bradley Blalock pitched a season-high 5 2/3 innings, leaving with a 2-1 lead. Jimmy Herget left the bases loaded by striking out Benson in the sixth.

BREWERS 6, NATIONALS 5

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Caleb Durbin hit an RBI single with one out in the ninth inning to cap a three-run rally and give Milwaukee a victory over Washington, its sixth consecutive victory.

Jackson Chourio singled to open the ninth against Kyle Finnegan (1-3), who came on to open the inning. Christian Yelich walked on four pitches and Andrew Vaughn followed with a two-run double to right-center to make it 5-all.

Pinch-runner Andruw Monasterio took third on a groundout. Brice Turang was walked intentionally and advanced to second on defensive indifference. Durbin then sliced a singled down the right-field line.

Rookie Brady House had his first two career homers for the Nationals, including a two-run shot in the eighth that put Washington up 4-3. CJ Abrams added a sacrifice fly in the ninth to make it 5-3.

Grant Anderson (2-3) pitched the ninth.

The Brewers erased a 2-0 deficit with three runs in the fourth off Shinnosuke Ogasawara, making his second major league start after nine seasons in Japan.

METS 3, ROYALS 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Juan Soto homered to lead New York past Kansas City.

Soto’s two-run shot into the right field fountains opened the scoring in the fourth. Over his last 20 games, Soto has nine home runs and 19 RBIs.

Frankie Montas (2-1) threw first-pitch strikes to 14 of 19 batters while allowing a run on four hits and striking out five.

Kyle Isbel and Jonathan India opened the sixth with doubles, reducing the Mets lead to 2-1. India had two of the Royals four hits, both doubles.

Reed Garrett relieved Montas and permitted India to advance on a wild pickoff attempt before retiring the heart of the Royals lineup, stranding the tying run.

Jeff McNeil’s two-out RBI single capped the scoring in the ninth.

Edwin Díaz allowed a walk in two hitless frames, earning his 19th save.

GUARDIANS 6, WHITE SOX 2

CHICAGO (AP) — Kyle Manzardo hit a tiebreaking home run and All-Star Steven Kwan drove in two runs to help Cleveland beat the Chicago.

Manzardo’s solo shot in the sixth off reliever Jordan Leasure (2-5) gave the Guardians a 3-2 lead and helped Tanner Bibee secure his first win since May 22.

Kwan had a sacrifice fly in the seventh, and he and Jose Ramirez added RBI singles in the ninth as Cleveland won for the fifth time in six games.

Bibee (5-9) gave up two runs and six hits with two walks and five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Erik Sabrowski, Cade Smith and Matt Festa combined for 3 1/3 perfect innings to finish it.

Carlos Santana had an RBI single in the first and scored on Angel Martinez’s sacrifice fly in the fourth to give the Guardians a 2-0 lead.

Rookie Kyle Teel had a two-run single for the White Sox to tie 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth.

Sean Burke allowed Cleveland’s first two runs, along with three hits, two walks and five strikeouts in five innings. The White Sox have dropped five of seven.

PADRES 5, PHILLIES 4

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Jackson Merrill broke out of a slump with two home runs off All-Star Zack Wheeler, and Manny Machado hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the seventh inning for San Diego, who won their second straight game against Philadelphia.

Merrill hadn’t homered since May 27, a span of 35 games. He hit a two-run, opposite-field shot to left center with one out in the second to tie the game at 2. He appeared relieved and gently pumped his right fist as he rounded first base and then motioned toward the Padres’ bullpen.

His solo shot to right center with one out in the sixth tied the game at 4.

Machado’s sac fly off Jordan Romano brought in Fernando Tatis Jr., who had greeted Tanner Banks (2-1) with a one-out single.

Wheeler was named to the National League All-Star team but won’t pitch because of his start Saturday. He was replaced Friday by San Diego reliever Adrian Morejon.

Wheeler allowed four runs and six hits in six innings, struck out six and walked one. It was just the fourth time in 19 starts this season that Wheeler allowed more than two earned runs.

ASTROS 5, RANGERS 4, 11 INNINGS

HOUSTON (AP) — Zack Short hit a walk-off RBI single in the 11th inning after Christian Walker tied it with a sacrifice fly and Houston beat Texas.

Short hit a 1-1 pitch to right field off Hoby Milner after Robert Garcia (1-5) walked two to load the bases.

Texas took a 4-3 lead when Adolis García hit the first pitch from Bennett Sousa (3-0) for a single — scoring automatic runner Marcus Semien.

Kyle Higashioka hit a solo home run off Josh Hader with two outs in the ninth to tie it 3-3. It was the first blown save for Hader after 25 straight to begin the season.

Jose Altuve hit his 17th homer — a two-out solo shot in the first off Jacob deGrom to tie it 1-1 after the Rangers scored an unearned run on Framber Valdez’s wild pitch.

Valdez allowed an unearned run on four hits with 10 strikeouts and no walks in six innings. The Astros have won his last 12 starts with him getting the win in nine of them.

DeGrom allowed two runs on four hits and a walk in six innings with eight strikeouts.

ANGELS 10, DIAMONDBACKS 5

ANAHEIM, Calif (AP) — Mike Trout homered and had a two-run single to close in on two milestones, Yusei Kikuchi overcame Eugenio Suárez’s two home runs and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-5 on Saturday night.

After Los Angeles took a 4-2 lead in the fourth, Trout followed Nolan Schanuel’s leadoff single in the fifth against Zac Gallen (7-10) with his 17th homer. Trout capped a four-run eighth with the two-run single. He has 395 career homers and 994 RBIs.

Suárez hit his 30th and 31st homers, the first a 434-footer in the second into the rocks in center and the second to right center in the fourth to top his total from last season. He reached 30 homers for the sixth time.

Kikuchi (4-6) allowed three runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings. He took a blow to his pitching shoulder in the sixth on Josh Naylor’s liner. The Japanese left-hander stayed in, but was done two pitches later when Randal Grichuk singled to make it 6-3.

Galen allowed eight hits and six runs in five innings.

ATHLETICS 4, BLUE JAYS 3

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Brent Rooker hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth inning and Mason Miller struck out Ernie Clement and George Springer looking with the tying run on second in the ninth inning as the Athletics beat Toronto.

Miller walked pinch hitter Joey Loperfido leading off the ninth and Nathan Lukes bunted him to second. Miller struck Clement with a 103.3 mph fastball and Springer on a slider after topping 102 on his two previous pitches — both strikes.

Rookie Leo Jiménez hit his first home run — a two-out solo shot off Jacob Lopez (3-5) to put the Blue Jays up 1-0 in the second. Ernie Clement doubled leading off the third and scored on a two-out double by Bo Bichette for a 2-0 lead.

Rooker had an RBI double off Kevin Gausman (6-7) in the third inning to tie it 2-all after Lawrence Butler’s single drove in the first run. Rooker hit his 20th home run two innings later after Nick Kurtz’s two-out single for a 4-2 lead.

Lopez allowed two runs and four hits with two walks and five strikeouts in five innings. Elvis Alvarado struck out four in a row in 1 2/3 innings and left after a bloop double by Clement with two outs in the seventh.
