An obese marmot living at a park in Kamloops has become a bit famous after its photo went viral on several social media platforms earlier this week.

Kamloops photographer Taylor Borth captured images of the tubby critter while out exploring at McArthur Island Park on July 6.

“When I rounded the corner and spotted him, I audibly gasped, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” she said in a previous interview with iNFOnews.ca. “He just stared back at me like…what? And then turned around to flop down on the ground. He didn’t even run away as I walked by him although I don’t think he had the ability to.”

iNFOnews.ca asked readers to come up with names for the famous marmot, and they delivered.

CHUNGUS in all capitals was one suggestion, while others included Biggy, George, Gold, and Jerry.

One reader who described the marmot as chunky and snow-globe-shaped suggested the name Porridge, while other creative submissions were Girth Vader, Fat Albert, Prosperity and Tubbykins.

Later, more readers came in with comical name suggestions: Uncle Pork, Big Tubbb, Mr. Chonklesworth, Marmzilla, and Tubby.

If you like any of these names or have a better one, let us know at news@infonews.ca.
