Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the South Okanagan, including Penticton, the Similkameen and Boundary regions this afternoon.
The conditions are just right for the development of severe thunderstorms this afternoon, Aug. 22.
The meteorologists say the thunderstorms are capable of generating strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain, along with lightning.
A severe thunderstorm has been spotted near Eastgate along Highway 3 between Princeton and Manning Park, and is moving northwest at 30 km/h, Environment Canada says. Communities south of Princeton will be affected until about 5 p.m.

“Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches,” the weather watch reads. “Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.”
Severe weather watches are issued when the atmospheric contains are favourable for the thunderstorms, Environment Canada says.
