RCMP say several people were injured in a crash between two powerboats on Okanagan Lake near the Bennett bridge last night.
The two boats crashed about 500 metres south of the bridge at around 8:41 p.m. yesterday, Aug. 27, according to a West Kelowna RCMP media release.
Emergency crews, including paramedics, firefighters, RCMP officers and volunteers with Central Okanagan Search and Rescue responded to the collision.
RCMP say when the boats crashed on of the two ended up on top of the other.
BC Emergency Health Services spokesperson Bowen Osoko says three injured people were taken to hospital in stable condition, while four others went to hospital but did not appear to be hurt.
A statement from search and rescue says it was initially unknown if any people were in the water but police were able to determine that everyone was accounted for. The statement says the Kelowna Fire Department removed the damaged vessels from the area.
Police say neither impairment nor weather conditions were a factor in the crash as the investigation into the cause continues.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or has video footage, is asked to contact West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880 and reference file number 2025-51567.
