Police on hunt for Kelowna public art vandals

RCMP are on the lookout for four suspects who investigators believe were involved in knocking over a bronze statue in Kelowna’s downtown.

The Working Man statue at the intersection of Bernard Avenue and St. Paul Street sustained significant damaged when it was knocked from its foundation at around 1 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, according to an RCMP media release.

Police say city employees reviewed CCTV footage and four suspects were identified.

“These individuals caused significant and costly damage to something with sentimental value to Kelowna’s downtown core and community,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Michael Gauthier said in the release. “It is imperative that we work together and hold those responsible accountable.”

Suspect one is a Caucasian male in his late 20s, tall with a medium build, curly brown hair and facial hair. He was wearing a black button shirt, black shorts, a green baseball cap and black shoes.

The second suspect is described as a Caucasian male in his late 20s, shorter with a medium build short brown hair and light facial hair. He was wearing a black v-neck T-shirt, green shorts and black shoes.

The third suspect is a Caucasian male in his late 20s, taller with a medium build, longer blonde hair in the back and black facial hair. He was wearing a black tank top, pink and yellow floral board shorts, a black baseball cap and blueish cowboy boots.

Suspect four is also a Caucasian male in his late 20s. He’s tall with a medium build and medium length dark-coloured hair. He was wearing a blue and white floral shirt, beige cargo shorts, grey socks and grey shoes and was carrying a black backpack.
