North Okanagan RCMP investigating after fatal vehicle collision

VERNON - RCMP and the North Okanagan Traffic Services are looking into a single-vehicle collision that left one person dead early this morning, July 3.

At approximately 5:45 a.m., Vernon North Okanagan RCMP along with Vernon Fire Rescue and B.C. Ambulance Service responded to the crash on Mission Road near Allan Brooks Way.

According to a media release issued by Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, a blue Kia Sorrento went off the road and collided with a power pole. Police say the driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, died as a result of the crash.

"An RCMP collision analyst is currently on scene to conduct further investigation into the cause of the collision," RCMP Const. Kelly Brett says in the release. "Mission Road remains open at this time with single lane alternating traffic."

Commuters are asked to adjust routes to work this morning in an effort to keep the area clear and allow emergency personnel to work.

Police say the North Okanagan Traffic Services and B.C. Coroner Services will continue to investigate the collision and death.
