VERNON - A total of 85 new residential care beds are in the works for Vernon and with the recent awarding of the contract they are getting closer to reality.
Interior Health announced the project and then issued a request for proposals back in February. A total of 10 submissions were received and H & H Total Care Services was awarded the contract. The company currently provides contracts residential services at care homes in both Kamloops and Penticton.
The new Vernon multi-storey care home will be built at 3006 29th Ave. In addition to the 85 publicly-funded beds there will be five private pay residential complex care beds as well as additional private pay assisted living beds.
Construction should begin this year and occupancy is expected by mid-2017.
Kelowna is also getting 100 new residential care beds. Construction was expected to begin this fall on that project.
