VERNON - A longboarder who died in a collision with a vehicle Sunday night likely rode through a stop sign, RCMP investigators believe.

At about 11:10 p.m. July 13, the longboarder, thought by police to be in his teens was hit by a vehicle in the area of 39 Street and Okanagan Avenue. Mounties say the driver of the vehicle didn't see him until it was too late.

Though B.C. Ambulance Service and the Vernon Fire Department were called and provided CPR, the young man died of his injuries later at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

The vehicle was towed and will get a mechanical inspection. RCMP say alcohol doesn't appear to be a factor in the accident.

The Vernon detachment would appreciate the public's help identifying the young man.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
