A missing Kamloops man was found dead weeks after he was last seen.

Michael Scott, 41, was reported missing on Sept. 7 and last seen nearly a week earlier. His body was found four days ago, according to an RCMP news release on Sept. 24.

Southeast district major crimes investigators are now leading the investigation, but haven't yet determined whether whether his death is the result of foul play, according to an RCMP media release.

The last time Scott was seen or heard from was Sept. 3, RCMP said. He was transported to the hospital by RCMP overnight while drunk, then retrieved his truck from his mother's house the following morning, his wife Tasnim Azmayen told iNFOnews.ca.

Before he was reported missing, Kamloops RCMP pulled over Scott's truck, a blue 2017 Dodge Ram, near the Red Bridge on Sept. 5. They seized the truck after finding two intoxicated men inside, but neither were Scott.

He was reported missing two days later.

Police returned the truck to Scott's family, only to seize it again when Azmayen said items belonging to the two other men were inside the truck.

Azmayen later found Scott's belongings, including banking information and documentation related to their two-year-old son under the Red Bridge, roughly a week before a fire scorched the bridge supports on the Tk'emlups side.

When asked about the connection to the fire and Scott's belongings under the bridge last week, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said previously there was no evidence of a connection.

Azmayen said the two men in Scott's truck were known to police and that investigators had been trying to follow up with them after her husband was reported missing. Cpl. Evelyn wouldn't comment specifically on the two men and their potential connection to the search for Scott.

It's not clear how long Scott might have been dead and police didn't say where he was found, but the news release suggests his body was found in the Strawberry Hill area, near Rayleigh, as police are now seeking surveillance from the area between Sept. 3 and Sept. 20.
