A 41-year-old Kamloops man has been missing for more than two weeks and his wife is desperately trying to find him and bring him home.

Michael Scott has not been seen or heard from since Sept. 2 and was reported missing to police after his pickup truck was found near the Red Bridge in possession of two people on Sept. 5. As part of an impaired by drugs investigation the truck was impounded but no information about the missing man’s whereabouts was obtained. He was reported missing to police on Sept. 7.

“I have to keep my chin up and I can’t lose hope or I’ll lose everything,” his wife Tasnim Azmayen, 22, told iNFOnews.ca. “I’m hoping Mike is still out there and will come back.”

Azmayen has been searching the streets for answers, carrying a photograph of Scott, looking in shelters and homeless encampments, and asking members of the public for information.

The couple has a two-year-old son.

“My son knows something is wrong and every morning points to the window saying, ‘daddy, daddy where are you?’ and I tell him daddy loves you,” Azmayen said. “It’s hard to see my son looking for his dad and not have answers.”

Scott and Azmayen have been together for four years and married for two. He's from Kamloops and she's from Bangladesh and studied at Thompson Rivers University.

“He introduced me to the culture and gave me a house and baby and all the love in it,” she said. “He’s very friendly, he’s very helpful and gets along with everyone. He loves me and loves his son, always trying to be there for us, and is amazing with my family in Bangladesh."

Scott was running a painting business that fell apart during the COVID pandemic. He also deals with chronic health issues.

“During COVID, the government was giving financial help for small businesses but Michael is anti-vax so he didn’t receive funding," she said.

Azmayen said losing his business affected his mental health so he went for counselling, but couldn’t afford to keep going.

“That was hard on him, he's the man of the family and wants to be the bread winner and felt he was failing,” she said. “That caused him anxiety and depression.”

The last time Azmayen saw her husband was on Sept. 1 when he got drunk and was transported to the emergency department by RCMP.

“He has an alcohol issue, I want him to get help," she said. "I think he just gave up and doesn’t see any hope.”

The following morning, Scott left the hospital and went to his mom’s house to pick up his truck keys.

“He took his truck and told his mom he’d come back for his cell phone but he never came back for the phone. After that day we haven’t heard from him or seen him," she said. "He told his son how much he loves him everyday. He wouldn’t be hiding, he wouldn’t be doing this to us, he wouldn’t abandon us.”

On Sept. 5, police found Scott’s pickup truck near the Red Bridge in possession of two people.

“The two people driving it are known to RCMP, but when they found the truck, we hadn’t yet reported Mike missing or his truck stolen so they let the guys go and now they can’t find them,” Azmayen said. “I’ll never believe Michael would give his keys to anyone, they took his truck and maybe dumped him somewhere.”

Azmayen reached out to Kamloops Search and Rescue, city bylaw services and the RCMP. She called the hospital and tried to talk to a social worker shortly after her husband was declared missing.

“I’m married to him and yet I’m not allowed to know where he is or receive any information about him,” she said. “The cops are supposed to call me to give me updates...  I called them five times and left messages and no one reached back. I want them to show me they’re looking for Mike because it doesn’t look like they’re into it.”

Azmayen is asking the public to keep their eyes open for Scott.

“I want my husband here, I don’t see a future in front of me and our baby without him,” she said. “I can go back to family in Bangladesh but I need to be here for Mike, I’m not going to run away until he’s found.”

RCMP describe Scott as a 41-year-old Caucasian male, 5’9” tall, 160 lb. with brown hair and brown facial hair and brown eyes. He was a tattoo on his right forearm. He was last seen wearing a white blanket around his shoulders, a black T-shirt, sweat pants and white shoes.

In an emailed response to iNFOnews.ca, Kamloops RCMP media liaison officer Const. Crystal Evelyn said Scott has not been located yet and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who has information related to the missing person’s whereabouts is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-29755.
