The annual Leonid meteor shower starts early next week and will be visible until the of the month, reaching its peak in the middle of the month where up to 10 meteors per hour may be seen.

The shower can be seen every year at this time as Earth passes through debris left by Comet Tempel-Tuttle. It gets its name because the meteors appear to radiate from the constellation Leo. Comet Temple-Tuttle takes roughly 33 years to orbit around the sun.

An Interactive Meteor Shower Sky Map is available here where skywatchers can see the position of the Leonids radiant in the sky over their city for the upcoming night.

The shower starts on Monday, Nov. 6 with overnight conditions looking more favourable in Kamloops than throughout the Okanagan Valley. Kamloops is expected to have cloudy periods with no rain, whereas Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton have rain and cloudy overnight skies in the forecast to for the first half of the week.
