Life-sized dinosaur event postponed in Kelowna

A Kelowna event promising life-sized animatronic dinosaurs has moved its date to the spring, citing issues with finding a proper venue.

Jurassic Festival Kelowna, was originally scheduled for Feb. 4 to 6 in Kelowna and said tickets would be available for purchase once a venue was secured for the event. A recent posting of the event now shows it has been rescheduled for May 13 to 15.

“It has been a challenging time to find a suitable venue during this pandemic, getting availability of dates in-line with required specifications,” reads a recent post on the event’s page.

Organizers are also asking for Kelowna residents’ help to suggest suitable venues for the event, either outdoor venues with approximately 7,000 square metres or indoor venues with at least 4,000 square metres. They did not return a request for comment.

The venue must also be within 25 miles of the city, according to the post.

Jurassic Fest Canada came under fire last year when an event in Montreal was postponed, leading some parents to believe it is a scam. It has also faced other criticisms of being a scam in Australia.

The organizer’s website says the Montreal event has been re-scheduled for July 22 and 23 of this year due to COVID-19 and resulting restrictions.

“The exhibition will feature various life size dinosaurs species in a walk-through setup. Fossil excavation, family dinosaur-related activities play area, jumping castles. The great value day event is a fantastic opportunity for a family outing, school group visits and kids parties,” according to the Jurassic Fest Canada.
