Thompson Rivers University is hosting a celebration of life next week for a former student and volleyball player who died in a tragic crash just across from the school.
Owyn McInnis was 22 years old when he and two other WolfPack volleyball players were in a vehicle hit by a pickup truck on McGill Road five weeks ago. McInnis was killed in the collision, while his two teammates were seriously injured.
A memorial with flowers and WolfPack merchandise line the sidewalk where the fatal crash happened.
Campus and community members are invited to the event to be hosted in the gymnasium on Jan. 10, according to the WolfPack website.
Doors to the Tournament Capital Centre gym open at 3:30 p.m. with the program beginning at 4 p.m. Students, faculty, staff and other university and Kamloops community members are invited.
The other two players injured in the crash, Owen Waterhouse and Riley Brinnen, are still recovering.
Brinnen is beginning his rehab, according to an update to his online fundraiser.
Waterhouse, however, remains in a medically induced coma and critical condition, according to his separate fundraiser.
Kamloops RCMP haven't said what might have led to the crash as the investigation continues.
No charges have been laid.
