Kamloops robbery suspect caught in getaway taxi

FILE PHOTO

A suspect in an attempted robbery was arrested in Kamloops late last week after he fled in a taxi.

Kamloops RCMP say he tried to shoplift at a business on the 1300 block of West Trans Canada Highway around 3 p.m., April 14, near Aberdeen Mall, according to an RCMP media release. RCMP did not identify the business.

Police didn't say what stopped him from robbing the business, but he revealed a weapon before leaving in a taxi, RCMP said.

Officers responded to the attempted robbery and later pulled over the taxi on McGill Road.

A man and a woman, who were known to police, were arrested in the cab.

RCMP said officers seized a "machete-style knife" from the man and took both suspects into custody. They were released from custody and the male suspect was given conditions and a future court date.

He hasn't been charged yet, but police expect to forward charge recommendations once the investigation is finished.
