Kamloops RCMP say they found vehicle that hit cruiser the day after police chase

KAMLOOPS - A vehicle that was allegedly rammed into a police cruiser last week before fleeing, leading to a public appeal by police, was recovered the next day.

It's been one week since Kamloops RCMP put out a plea for the public to keep their eyes open for a dirty, white SUV that was last seen north of Rayleigh, but detachment spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a release today, Nov. 29, that the vehicle was located on Nov. 23.

She says the vehicle was recovered unoccupied near Barriere, and police are requesting a warrant for a 30-year-old Barriere man who could be facing several charges.

Earlier this week, Kamloops RCMP told iNFOnews.ca there was surveillance footage from the Heffley Creek Store, but they weren't prepared to release the photos at the time.

An officer had attempted to pull the vehicle over on Nov. 22 after witnessing it failing to stop at a stop sign, but the vehicle allegedly evaded police and drove in a reckless manner on the Yellowhead Highway before officers had to call the pursuit off.

Police said last week that the vehicle was last seen on the Yellowhead Highway north of Rayleigh.

The identity of the Barriere man has not been disclosed, and it's not clear if he is the owner of the vehicle.
