Kamloops RCMP have released the name of a murder victim after waiting for the results of an autopsy.

Thompson Rivers University lecturer Mohd Abdullah's body was found on March 17, and police now say his death is being treated as a murder investigation.

“We are sorry to confirm that Mr. Abdullah is the deceased person discovered last week,” Sgt. Nestor Baird of the Kamloops RCMP serious crime unit said in a news release.

Abdullah, 60, was reported missing on March 14 when he didn't show up for work. His body was later found in a vehicle by police.

Police were called to a "suspicious occurrence" on Monterey Place on March 17, one day after the detachment announced Abdullah was missing.

While police continue to investigate, a local Kamloops lawyer has been charged with interfering with a dead body, after allegedly storing Abdullah's body in a plastic bin.

Police believe the lawyer, Rogelio Butch Bagabuyo, committed the offence between March 16 and March 18, according to court documents.

Police have been working Abdullah's family and are "confident" that he is the deceased.

Abdullah was last heard from on March 11, but he was reported missing on March 14 when he didn't show up for work, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.

“Mohd usually travelled by foot, or took public transit,” Baird said. “We are releasing two images of Mohd getting off a bus in the downtown area on Friday, March 11, in hopes that it will spark the memory of any witnesses who may have seen him on that day or afterwards, and assist police in tracking his movements.”

Bagabuyo was scheduled to appear in court today for a bail hearing.

Kamloops RCMP are looking to track Abdullah's movements in the time leading up to his death.
