Kamloops man breaks into home and barricades himself inside

A Kamloops man was arrested after he broke into a home and barricaded himself inside.

Kamloops RCMP officers were called to the 100-block of Angus Street in the North Shore around 5 p.m. on April 1, according to a press release from police.

Someone had returned home and found a stranger inside their house. The homeowner left with the suspect still inside.

When officers arrived they saw someone in the basement smashing stuff with something.

The man is known to police and had two interactions with officers earlier that day.

The heavily-armed members of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team were called in after police did a risk assessment.

The team tried to convince the man to come out several times before using “response tactics” which got the suspect to safely surrender.

The man was arrested and is still in custody for a bail hearing.

Anyone who witnessed or has information that may be related to this investigation is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2025-9323.
