A good Samaritan's timely arrival helped Kamloops RCMP bring a reluctant suspect into custody Saturday night.
Just before midnight on Dec. 11, a man fled a traffic officer on foot after refusing to provide a breath sample, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.
As he fled on Aberdeen Drive, then began resisting arrest, a member of the public pulled over nearby.

“As the officer called for emergency backup, a good Samaritan pulled over, got out of his vehicle, and asked the officer if he needed a hand,” Const. Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson, said.
According to police, the man's presence caused the suspect to change his behaviour. The officer gained control of the suspect as backup arrived.
“The good Samaritan left before the officer was able to thank him,” Evelyn said. “Whoever you are, please know the impact your gesture had on the constable and how much it was appreciated.”

Police took the suspect into custody for refusing the breath sample and obstruction of an officer. He was also given a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle impounded for 30 days, according to RCMP.
Police are asking anyone who knows the member of the public to contact the detachment so he can be thanked in person.
