June turning cooler and possibly wetter in Kamloops, Okanagan

June is normally the wettest month of the year in Kamloops and the Okanagan.

Given the sometimes record-breaking heat during much of the first half of the month, that’s not likely to be the case this year but cooler weather is coming, along with a greater chance of showers.

There’s a 60% chance of showers in the Okanagan today, June 14, with a high temperature forecast at only 20 Celsius in Kelowna and Vernon, 23 C in Penticton, according to Environment Canada’s online forecast.

That should make today the coldest this month, beating the 24.3 C high on June 5 in Kelowna. There were four days in the first two weeks of June that were 30 C or higher, including a record breaking 35.1 C on June 8.

Rain is not in the forecast for Kamloops today but the temperature is only expected to reach 24 C.

It had five days over 30 C, including a record on June 8 of 36.3 C.

It’s expected to remain dry through Saturday in Kamloops with rain starting on Sunday. While it could reach 30 C tomorrow temperatures are expected to drop significantly. Sunday’s forecast high is only 16 C.

After today, the Okanagan is also expected to be dry until the rain starts on Sunday. Highs tomorrow are forecast to be 27 C, dropping to a high of 17 C on Sunday.

The Environment Canada forecast only goes for seven days.

AccuWeather forecasts for weeks in advance.

It shows generally cooler temperatures and periodic showers for Kelowna into July. The lowest high temperature in the next month is forecast as 14 C on June 21. The first day above 30 C is expected to be July 16.

Temperatures are forecast to be cooler in Kamloops as well with June 21 expecting a high of 15 C with July 16 reaching 31 C.

Warmer temperatures are showing as persisting through July but mostly in the high 20s C with a few days in the lower 30's C.
