Heavy rain on the way to Kamloops and South Thompson region

It’s going to get wet Friday night in Kamloops, really wet.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning of heavy rain on Friday night, Aug. 23, into Saturday.

A low pressure system currently off the Oregon coast is expected to move inland on Friday and then track across southern BC that evening.

The system will bring 15 to 25 millimetres of rain but at times up to 40 mm could fall.

The rain should taper off to a few showers by Saturday.

There’s a risk of landslides in vulnerable areas especially those impacted by recent wildfires. The combination of heavy rain and unstable soil could trigger dangerous slides or debris flows.

Pooling water on roads and highways is also a risk for drivers.
