A loyal customer of a Vernon tex mex-themed restaurant has started a fundraising campaign as the business could close forever due to the pandemic.

“I was disheartened to hear of this family's story regarding their struggle to keep their family business alive. The Burrells have exhausted every option for financial support, but due to Covid-19 circumstances they have repeatedly fallen through the cracks of this post Covid system,” wrote organizer Michelle Stewart for the Little Tex Restaurant on a GoFundMe page. She started the page July 8.

Tracy and Shamis Burrell took over the restaurant in 2018. It was established in 1995 and serves one-of-a-kind dishes, according to the page.

While the business struggled in 2018 due to a road closure, the COVID-19 pandemic has “created a new set of circumstances” for the owners, Stewart wrote.

“The Burrells only income was the restaurant. After spending the past 3.5 months waiting for financing to reopen Little Tex, they have used up their last resources to keep afloat for themselves and their family.”

Although the economy is restarting, the owners are still unable to open the restaurant with their lack of funds. Stewart is hoping to raise $25,000 for the restaurant through the GoFundMe page here.
