KAMLOOPS - A former mayoral candidate won’t have a criminal record if he follows conditions on his nine-month probation period.

Piero Luigi Filisetti, born 1959, pleaded guilty to assault in Kamloops Provincial Court on Thursday, Jan. 18. A year ago on January 17, Filisetti assaulted a man with bear spray.

After entering his guilty plea on what was supposed to be a one-day trial, he was granted a conditional discharge with a nine-month probationary period.

Prior to this incident Filisetti had no criminal record. If he abides by the terms set out in his probation, the assault charge will not show up on a record.

Filisetti was one of four mayoral candidates in the 2014 municipal election. He came in second place with 13.5 per cent of the votes against incumbent Mayor Peter Milobar who garnered 78.1 per cent of the votes.
