The evacuation order for properties on the west side of Okanagan Lake threatened by the White Rock Lake wildfire have been downgraded to an alert, according to the Central Okanagan emergency operation centre.

The order has been rescinded today, Aug. 9, for La Casa Lakeside Resort, Fintry, Upper Fintry and Shalal Road and properties north of and including 6409 Westside Road to La Casa. Residents may return home but are still under an evacuation alert.

"They must continue to be prepared to leave their homes on short notice should fire conditions change," reads the EOC media release.

A map showing the updated evacuation order and alert area is available online here.

The alert area includes properties in communities along Westside Road from the south end of Valley of the Sun to north of and including 6409 Westside Rd.

Power has also been off in the area since Friday night, Aug. 6, and was only restored yesterday afternoon.

"They should also consider potential food safety, water and sewage disposal issues related to the loss of power during a wildfire," according to the operations centre.

Earlier this afternoon, alerts were also rescinded for the Shuswap community of Chase and Township of Spallumcheen.

The White Rock Lake wildfire remains classified as out of control by the B.C. Wildfire Service.
