An evacuation alert has been issued by the Thompson-Nicola Regional Districts as heavy rainfall may cause a threat to people and property.

"Based on the current weather outlook and modelling from the River Forecast Centre, heavy rainfall in the Southern Interior poses a potential threat to people and property in the Coldwater and Lower Nicola watersheds," according to a press release from the Thompson Nicola Regional District.

Due to the danger to life, health, and property the district has issued an evacuation alert for properties in Electoral Area I, Blue Sky Country, Electoral Area M, Beautiful Nicola Valley – North, and Electoral Area N, Beautiful Nicola Valley – South.

This evacuation alert has been issued so that residents in low-laying areas adjacent to vulnerable rivers, streams, and creeks can prepare to evacuate their premises or property if necessary, according to the regional district.

The following properties, highlighted in red on the attached maps, remain on an evacuation order:

• 2185 Graham Rd;
• 5260 to 5580 Manning Creek FSR;
• 2972 Merritt-Spences Bridge Hwy 8;

• 818 Midday Valley Rd;

Residents on evacuation alert should pack essential items and locate family members as well as arrange transportation if needed for household members in the event of an evacuation. Move livestock to a safe location and arrange to move pets.

The regional district's full evacuation alert can be found on the TNRD's website.
