Workers at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops test positive for COVID-19

Royal Inland Hospital.

A group of workers at Royal Inland Hospital have tested positive for COVID-19.

Interior Health confirmed in a statement the workers who tested positive with the virus were on the patient tower construction site.

The initial case was identified last week, and all contacts began their self-isolation immediately. The follow-up testing done last week confirmed additional cases among those who were already in isolation.

Contractor EllisDon voluntarily closed the site on Monday, Nov. 2, as a cautionary measure. The exposure is not being classified as an outbreak.

"We can assure the local community, hospital staff, patients, visitors and other contractors that the exposure was limited to a crew who did not mingle with others on site," an Interior Health spokesperson said in a statement. "Their movement was also limited around the hospital and within the community. We are confident the hospital area and staff were not exposed."

All those who tested positive have been contacted by Interior Health to complete contact tracing.

Interior Health isn't saying how many workers have tested positive for the virus.
