FILE PHOTO

Kamloops RCMP visited a man in hospital Sunday morning, who claimed he was stabbed after an unknown man asked for cigarettes.

Officers attended the hospital around 4:10 a.m., Dec. 12, where the victim had non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim was walking downtown near Nicola Street, where an unknown man asked them for cigarettes, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.

Police say the suspect pulled out a knife when no one gave him cigarettes, and the victim then physically confronted the suspect.

The suspect had a beard, and he was wearing a toque, dark clothing and a tan jacket inside a darker one, according to RCMP. He had a shopping cart with him at the time.

Kamloops RCMP are now looking for witnesses to the incident, and anyone with information can call the detachment at 250-828-3000.
