Temperatures plummeted in the Okanagan overnight setting new records in Kelowna and Penticton.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says Kelowna broke the record for cold temperatures overnight with a temperature of -8 Celsius at its weather station at the UBC Okanagan campus this morning, Oct. 29.

“The old record was -7.2 set in 1935,” Lundquist says.

Penticton also set a new record, he says, with an overnight low temperature of -8.7 C breaking the old record of -7.5 C set in 1991.

Lundquist says last night will likely be the coldest night this week thanks to the gradual warming trend expected after the cold front that moved through the region yesterday.
