Cocaine valued at over $15M seized from boat off Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Authorities in Puerto Rico say they found cocaine worth an estimated $15.6 million on a fishing boat off the southwestern coast of the U.S. island territory.

U.S. Border Patrol against and Puerto Rican police searched the boat after stopping it off the town of Cabo Rojo. On board they found more than 1,300 pounds (601 kilograms) of cocaine.

The Border Patrol said in a statement Tuesday that authorities arrested two men from the Dominican Republic who were on board the 28-foot boat.

The Mona Passage between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic has long been used as a smuggling route for migrants and drugs.
