A young man died in a house fire in the small community of Blackpool about 115 kilometres north of Kamloops along Highway 5 North Wednesday.
Fire crews were called the blaze at approximately 12:07 p.m. yesterday, May 8, in the 1400 block of Cutts Road, according to a Thompson-Nicola regional district media release.
When firefighters arrived the home was fully involved with intense flames and smoke. Fire crews from the Little Fort Fire Department and the Clearwater Fire Department joined Blackpool firefighters to battle the blaze.
“Due to the intense smoke, flames, and a dangerous fire flashover, fire crews were unable to safely enter the structure,” read the release.
The house collapsed within 30 minutes of the initial report of the fire.
A man in his 20s was killed and a second person in the home was taken by air ambulance to hospital with burns.
The regional district isn’t releasing the identity of the person killed.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this point. An excavator will be brought to move debris once it’s safe and investigators can been looking into the cause.
Blackpool Fire Rescue Chief Mike Savage said the department’s thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victims.
